Mancos Mush - sled dogs

Your 2008 Race Officials

Race Director:

Although not a musher, Christy Pollard has been hooked into the Mancos Mush since its inception. Being a resident of Mancos for the past 15 years, it provides her great pleasure to bring part of the mushing world to Mancos to experience the wonderful snow, trails and community.

Christy has been employed by Directory Plus for the past 25 years as production manager making telephone directories for Southwest Colorado and Northwest New Mexico. Directory Plus has been the main sponsor of the Mancos Mush for the past four years.

“Without dogs in the heart or home, there would not be much joy.”

Christy Pollard 2008

Race Marshal:
Mike Simpson is no stranger to the West and its lifestyle. From cowboying on some of the west’s largest ranches to running sled dogs in the Colorado high country in the winter, Mike not only lives in the West, Mike lives the West, and that is what he paints. In addition to being our race marshal, Mike is also the artist who produced this year’s painting for our official race poster.
Race Veterinarian:
Dr. Chuck Hawman and the Durango Animal Hospital gang once again make up the Mancos Mush Vet team.
Trail Coordinator:
Skip Favreau has been owned by sled dogs since 1986 and has cabins located within our trail system. Skip has been in charge of the Mush trails for the past three years and we are grateful to have him take charge again this year.
Trail Groomer:
Once again this year Roger Pennington and the San Juan Sledders will care for the trails that keep this race on the mushing map.
